Em outubro e novembro de 2013, tive uma série de compromissos profissionais espalhados por quatro pontos da Grã-Bretanha. Como não conhecia direito a região, resolvi fazer todo o percurso (exceto a região de Londres) de carro. Foi uma experiência muito gratificante e gostaria de compartilhá-la com outras pessoas.
Tendo como ponto de partida Londres, fiz em quatro dias um roteiro bem diversificado na movimentada cidade cosmopolita. Tudo feito de metrô e ônibus, transportes públicos muito eficientes. Basta comprar o cartãozinho “Oyster”, em qualquer estação de metrô, e carregar com quantas libras quiser. Cerca de 20 libras são suficientes para muita “bateção” de perna. Quando acabar o crédito, a roleta vai apitar. É só repor nas máquinas automáticas.
Para quem quiser fazer uma viagem econômica, recomendo o Ibis Budget, da 100, White Chapel, região bem localizada, perto de tudo, e bem interessante, um bairro do leste, de predominância muçulmana. Gasta-se uma média de 60 libras por noite em confortáveis apartamentos duplos, limpos e com boa iluminação. Café da manhã farto à parte, a 4,95 libras por pessoa.

London Eye, em noite de lua cheia (19/10/2013)
O segundo dia foi repleto de atividades.
Em toda cidade que visito, gosto muito de visitar parques e conhecer a vegetação local. Como o outono estava no auge, decidi ir até o Hyde Park, que havia visitado há muitos anos atrás, durante o verão. No caminho, conheci o Museu de História Natural. Valeu à pena e a entrada é gratuita!

Museu de História Natural, bem próximo ao Hyde Park
A surpresa ficou por conta de uma igreja ortodoxa russa, bem próxima à entrada do parque. Eles estavam praticando um culto cantado, uma maravilha, um verdadeiro concerto de música vocal.
O bairro é tranquilo, cheio de pequenas áreas verdes.
No Hyde Park, a explosão do outono londrino multicolorido e a visão de uma civilização cada vez mais multicultural. Passear em parques é uma das coisas que mais gosto nas minhas viagens!

No terceiro dia, fiz uma visita afetiva. Sou fã da série televisiva britânica Hercule Poirot, protagonizada por David Suchet, ator nascido para viver o personagem. Seu prédio de apartamentos é o Whitehaven Mansions, na charmosa Charterhouse Square. Fui até lá, claro!

Dirigindo na mão inglesa, um desafio!
Acabada a primeira etapa em Londres, peguei o carro , já reservado quando estava no Brasil, para fazer o roteiro terrestre. Já estava apreensivo com essa questão da mão inglesa. De fato, foi muito estranho dirigir “em negativo”. Custei a me acostumar. Ainda bem que o carro era bom, um Hyundai novinho, automático. Já pensou se fosse manual? Seria uma dificuldade a mais, pois além de tudo teria que trocar as marchas com a mão esquerda. O que aconteceu foi que a gente fica com tendência a encostar do lado esquerdo da estrada e precisei ficar atento para que isso não acontecesse. Algumas estradinhas do Reino Unido são muito estreitas e os carros ainda estacionam na estrada, sem problemas, então digo que foi difícil, mas em dois dias me acostumei com a inversão, depois comecei a relaxar e desfrutar a paisagem enquanto dirigia.
O primeiro destino era Bath, a 160 km de Londres. Trata-se de uma cidade romana, que preserva muito desse período de dominação histórica na Grã Bretanha. Linda, sofisticada e com um SPA onde se pode relaxar com banhos de águas termais espetaculares e saunas.

No dia 4 de novembro, embarquei cedo para Roma, onde tinha uma reunião. De noite, no mesmo dia, segui de volta para o Brasil, e decidi fazer esse relato com fotos para compartilhar com vocês. Acho que valeu à pena, pois foi também uma forma de relembrar os melhores momentos dessa viagem fascinante pela Grã Bretanha!
